Just a thanks to the idiots who ruined Pooh Corner this year.
Your name is already making its way ahead of you North to other places so you wont be welcome.

Alot of hikers right behind you are furious with your stupidity and lack of consideration and manners to the people who go out of their way to do good things for people.

You all suck and I hope your hike karmas you back for being jerks.

and to Bill and Molly …from all the hikers who care about and appreciate you guys, we are sorry you have had to deal with people like that.
We appreciate all the kindness and years of hospitality you have extended, and we as a whole hope this wont effect years to come.

Thank you for this post Lion King…yup it seems this years class of 06 has some aholes hiking as well… In talking with a few hikers about this crap going on it was suggested that perhaps the names of these idiots should be made public…As i have only heard about this second hand i don"t think i should be the one to mention names here. On the other hand i did post elsewhere that a lot of the problems we have had in past years where motel doors were closed was because of the smoking eagle scouts from 2001. They were also putting grafitti all over the place on the CDT last year…When and if these guys come up for a triple crown award i will be the first to say NO WAY to them…Awarding people like this for hiking the 3 trails when for years to come other folks will suffer from their actions is not cool in my book!!!

When I stayed in the motel in Dunsmuir in October '04, months after the main '04 pack had been through, the owners were none too happy about hosting thruhikers, either. They even considered closing their doors to all hikers in the future.

It seems that some folks in my “class” were sharing rooms, often with MANY additional hikers, without telling the owners or paying for all the extra folks.

This meant extra towels used, extra hot water, and lots of extra CLEANING because the hikers in question were slobs. The owners felt that these hikers were stealing from them, and they were absolutely right.

It was extremely uncool hiker behavior, and Jeff and I were embarrassed on behalf of those idiots. I hope our apologies helped to remind the owners that not all hikers are such users.

The Taquitz Inn Motel was temorarily “closed” to thru-hikers when I was there in May, after a rowdy bunch left a bad taste in the prorietors of the place. I tried to explain that it was just the wrong crowd mixed together, and it was more of an aberation than the norm. Hopefully hikers next yr won’t lose out on this excellent service.
This stuff has been going on for yrs on the AT, and a lot of great places have closed because of it.
