Post office? - The Colorado Trail

Hi all. I’m heading out to begin a thru hike from Denver to Durango and was wondering if anyone could give me a list of post offices or drop points (along with addresses) within towns that are close to the Colorado trail, or at least tell me where I can obtain this information. I’m having a friend send me my resupply boxes of food every 6 days or so. Any info on doing this would be very helpful. Also, without the help of a GPS, how difficult is it to hike into different towns from the trail. Thanks again for your time and help. God Bless.

With google, it is easy enough to find the exact PO zip code. You don’t have to mail it to the exact address, something like this works fine:

Joe Hiker
c/o General Delivery
Leadville, CO 80461
PLEASE HOLD FOR CO TRAIL HIKER. ETA 9/25

Some places along the trail will let you mail packages directly. This way you do not need to worry about PO hours. If you plan on staying there, can be convenient.

As an aside, don’t forget many towns along the way have large grocery stores. Unless you are on a time crunch or have special dietary needs, the local Safeway is going to have everything you need.

You do not need a GPS to hike the CT, much less find the towns. The guide books, maps and databook all tell you which way the town is from the major trailheads (e.g. Leadville is this direction from Tennessee Pass).

Good luck!
