Powdered water - Appalachian Trail

Hey, everybody! I just heard about a new product called “Powdered Water.” It’s basically dehydrated water; you put it in your water container, add a quart of water, stir it up, and voila! A fresh quart of water! Cuts down on your pack weight in a big way–no more lugging around heavy water. Has anybody tried it yet?

They call it dehydrated water at my outfitter. I’m planning a hike out west this summer and am so greatful I don’t have to carry around all that heavy H20.

I don’t know what brand your outfitter carries or who manufactures it, but I read somewhere that a side waste product to produce this stuff (hyrogen dioxide emmissions) has been known to elevate the spore count to unhealthy levels. Beware! Be very aware!!!

I’ve been using it for years and my spore count is way up and has been way up for years. I was blaming it on the flowers. I have been shaking mine, when I suppose I should have stirred. That may have been what did it. I always carry several containers of the stuff. It basically weightless, so it helps out a lot. You can even add things to it to make brew with lots of calories and which will make you feel very good after a long days hike. :cheers

The D-Hydro brand is coming out with new flavors like citrus, mocha, sunny orange, and lemonade. Taking a page from Stolichinaya and other vodka makers, I guess. Some are vitamin fortified, which should be attractive to hikers.
