I have the prolite 3 short. I packed mine everyway I could. If you fold and roll it the same way everytime you will develope weaknesses in the foam inside that helps it self inflate. I kept mine on the outside of my granite gear nimbus ozone pack. I usually folded it twice, rolled it and slid it under 2 compression straps with the valve OPEN. Having the valve open lets the foam breathe somewhat, this is especially important if you blow air into the pad (not recommend by manufacturer, I do it anyways). Another reason I kept the valve open was to create backpressure into my compression straps without having the straps in compression. When my food got low and I had room inside my pack I kept it inside in a smaller, tighter package. If you have absolutely no room inside your pack I would find a way to keep it dry because they don’t dry as well as closed cell foam pads. I have seen people that wrap their tyvek groundsheets around the pad to protect it and to keep it dry. Having both your groundsheet and pad on the outside of your pack makes for easy deployment of the both when you are taking a break or when you are about to unload your pack at the end of the day. I hope this applies to your question…
