Anyone know of any online merchants that we can purchase silk from at a reasonable price for making sleeping bag liners?

I purchased mine online at Ebay through an Australian dealer. Just search “silk liner” and you should be able to get one reasonable. I think I paid about $30.

What are the purposes of silk bag liners? Dirt, wormth, sweat, comfort, or all of these? Are they realy worth the weight? I’ve seen them for sale, should I seriously conseder getting one? I hate the feel of most sleeping bags on bear skin. (Sticky or slippery or cold).

Thanks, Paul —>

TA,
Not exactly on point, but you should look at www.campmor.com which has about 30 sleep bag liners to choose from. Admittedly not the same as buying uncut silk and making your own. See you at the Sidetrack.

The question was where to buy silk fabric, not silk products.

I make a lot of things out of silk to include a silk sleeping bag liner. I buy my silk from http://www.thaisilks.com they have a 1-800 number and are very nice to deal with. There prices are maybe the cheapest you will find. I also used silk as a liner for a silnylon “vapor barrier liner” for my DOWN sleeping bag. What you want is called Habotai - China Silk - 8mm. It costs from about $3.25 (white) to $5.00 (colors) a yard. I also have a Speer custom made Hammock w/bug net made out of silk. The hammock weight with tree straps is 14oz. I am happy to answer more questions if anyone has any about working with silk.

Hey gardenville, I’m modifying one of my natural silk jagbag sleeping bag liners. I need to rip a seam and then sew it back. What sort of thread should I use, and are there any special techniques on the seam removal?

www.dharmatrading.com has 8mm 45" wide Habotai silk for $3.11 and $4.91 for 55". Also, check out the hemp/silk fabric- nice yet seems fragile. Island Mama uses all of the above for her beautiful Batik artwork.

What dimensions are the bag liners?
