Rain/wind pants

I have the Marmot Precip Jacket and wasn’t going to get rain pants but keep wondering if that is wise. Are rain pants a piece of gear worth carrying in May? If so, any good recommendations.

I’m trying to avoid being one who ends up sending half my gear back at when I get to Neels Gap.

Thanks,

If the expected weather is above 45*-50* you won’t need pants or jacket, jacket maybe to keep the wind off you around camp. You’ll sweat like a pig in rain gear. In the Smokies when we were there in March we just wore the pants and t-shirts when it was in the 20*'s to keep the thighs warm. You just learn how to warm up fast, put wet clothes on in the morning and save your dry ones for camp. I did Max Patch in shorts. It was sleeting. If you aren’t sure send your gear to Neels and pick it up there if you need it. Start out with less.

I kind of thought they would be too hot. I’ll keep the jacket though. Thanks for the advice. Jim
