hi guys, i’m going somewhere for a long time, that somewhere is everywhere, i’ll be exposed to any type of terrain under the sun, i’m going from atlantic to pacific, i’ve never done something this big, need advice on alot of things, in fact i need any advice you can give me, what are things that are crucial, what are things good to have “just in case”, tell me about transportation because i want to walk half and skip the urban parts, are there greyhound buses in most cities, are there railroads i can take, about hitchiking, is that legal, tell me what kind of trouble i can get with the law, each state has its own quirks, what can i do to avoid problems with authorities, i am expecting to hitch rides with strangers, maybe even spend the night with them if theyll have me, what are some precaution i can take not to attract trouble or looneys on the road, also i will be passing through some of the wildest parts this country has to offer, are there things i should know to be safe, about bears, snakes and insects, also what is the best phone service for a trip like this, i’m thinking about helio, but not sure, i promised my parents that i’ll try and call every day, is that realistic, what is the right type of food to pack for this journey, i am thinking of power bars, cereal, rice, and honey, also what are good places to shop for geer in nyc, and as for personal hygiene, is it ok to take baths in lakes with soaps, isnt that enviromentally hazardous, yes stupid questions such as these, i know it all hypotethically but thats not enough for me, share your knowledge, not your criticism.

I'd go Pacific to Atlantic, because I hate having the sun in my eyes at the end of the day. I'd love to hear more about your route before I gave you too much specific advice. I'd eat more protein than that.

Just remember, please leave NO trace. Not even soapy residue in lake water.

My advice. If I was a relative of yours I would advise you to skip the entire trip. Try something a little more manageable. A shorter hike in the mountain would be a good start. It appears you have very little experience in hiking, hitching or horse sense.

Since I’m not a relative, I say go for it. I’m the guy that jumped freight trains across America starting on his high school graduation night. I hitched rides to get back home. Don’t let anyone keep you from your goals. You will learn along the way. Nobody can get you ready for a trip like that. Be ready to take on different types of jobs along the way to keep you in the money. Don’t trust anyone along the way, but make as many friends as you can. If it gets to much of a problem, go back home and get your self a good education. Peace brother, I wish you the best.

Advice, try doing a week long trip on the A.T to get the feel of backpacking or go down to a country like New Zealand which is highly travel freindly and easy to hike/hitch and meet locals in safety. Youre asking a lot of questions that can easily be learned by you if you drop the grandiose journey talk and just get out there and do it. Are you familiar with long range trails like the American Discovery Trail, that sounds like it may fit what youre trying to do. Your posts are a little idealistic, albeit border line creepy but it's cool have fun if thats your choice.

I would I might start by the night end of a long day and sleep amidst the rubble of culture, curled up with the dreams of tomorrow and just live to love another day. Migrant workers...become an American migrant worker. I'll thank you by buying a peach.
