I am doing a research paper on: how long distance hiking impact the persons life and or their values and in what way?
So if any past thru hikers feel that they have been changed by hiking the AT I would like to hear about it.
Thanks

Look at the journals on this web site and find the ones with a lot of entries. That indicates the person was on the trail for a long time. Sometimes these writers summarize their feelings in their last entries.
Do a web search on “nina baxley”. She did a thru hile a few years ago and posted a weekly journal on gorp.com. She is an excellent writer and had a very good summary of what she had learned. All of her entries were worth reading, and there was a great picture of her with the famous Barefoot Sisters.

Actually, Nina Baxley’s journal is on this web site. Do a web search on her trail name Waterfall. Her married name Nina Rogers.
She is hearing impaired, and it was very touching when she described how her partial disability would make her feel left out at times. I have had trouble stuttering, so I know a litle bit about how it feels to have a barrier to communication. I could identify with her.
