Recharging batteries for digi camera

I have an Olympus 4040 digi camera, 4 batteries NIMH, since I might encounter charging problems I’m thinking about buying one of those fast-a -magic chargers that are supposed to take 15-30 minutes to charge 4 AA.
In any case , what do YOU do with charging batteries on the trail? will those new fast chargers suffice?
I am going to use the camera a lot on the trail.

I use the same batts in my Olympus. I just weighed my charger, its about a half pound. You’ll be able to charger on trail with some effort…outlets in camp ground bathrooms etc. Where ever you can find one. The charger is just heavy. A four pack of regular batts will run nearly $5. Carry and extra Ni set.

Radio Shack carries a solar battery charger 25.00 charges AA or AAA batteries down side it takes 24 hr to charge so you have to carry extra batteries. I have mine on top of my pack and it does a good job.Very light .

Unless you are recharging for enviromental reasons, on a thruhike it doesn’t make sense. The NiMH batteries hold a whole lot less charge than a set of Alkaline or even better, lithium batteries. Many rechargable batteries will claim better life, but it’s not really true. The batteries do hold their voltage better, but they don’t have as much charge in them (milliamp-hours). Lithiums are the best because they both hold their voltage as they discharge and have a good rating…

I have a special battery in my digicam so we’ll have to use a recharger.

I think its the cost. 4 lithium AAs?, ouchy. I do get over 250 HQ images on my camera but using the view screen eats them up, on NiMHs. Gunna lug a car battery next thru hike.

Yeah, $12 for 4 is steep. Here’s a link for free shipping with the lithium batteries if anyone is interested - http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/xdpy/s/Accessories/index.html
