I have talked my hiking buddy to camp near Breckenridge the end of July/first of August, 2010. He is used to going to RMNP and hiking those trails. We are intermediate hikers (probably on the lower range of this). Can anyone recommend “must do” hiking trails within a 50 mile radius of Breckenridge. Thanks.

Look a few miles north to the Gore Range. The 10-Mile Creek TH is at the edge of Frisco and leads to some incredible high passes. The Buffalo Peak area near Dillon is great, too. A real challenge is Mt Powell, the highest peak in the Gore Range. No 14ers there, so there are fewer people.
South near Hoosier Pass you can bag an “easy” 14er, Quandary Peak, if you’re into that kind of thing. Escape the crowds by bagging Atlantic and Pacific Peaks, just under 14K and just north of there.
That’s just a start. Summit County is a great area.
