Red's Meadows resupply

I checked the Red’s Meadows website today. Red’s is now open for resupply packages on the PCT/JMT. There was a wind storm last fall where 10,000+ trees blew down.
There are some trail diversions around Purple Lake area.
I am doing this section on the PCT in mid August. I am very relieved to see this progress

Resupply in Red’s is iffy and expensive. Better to take the bus into Mammoth. The burgers were good though. That’s too bad about Purple lake, that area was just beautiful. Wish I was doing it again this year.

Big B, why is Red’s iffy and expensive? Reds is half the price of MTR to hold a package and the store is fairly well stocked. Yeah, they charge more than you’ll pay in a grocery store but you have to factor in convenience over going into Mammoth. I’ve hiked the JMT a handful of times and have never had an issue resupplying there, both resupply boxes and/or store bought items.

I have resupplied at Red’s before too with no problem. They are much friendlier than MTR.
I am wondering how many trail diversions there will be with the huge blow down

Yea, Reds is a good option for a resupply box IMO. It beats going into Mammoth if you are tight on time or money. My wife and I had no problems at all with the mail drop or the prices for food and supplies when we hiked the JMT in '11.

I am using Red’s as a resupply point and possible break spot this year. Last time did the Mamoth route so we could visit with friends. Keeping it simple this go around.
