i through hiked 05’ and did it with typical gear. now that i’m a few years out i’m starting to notice the trail gear that i still have around for my daily life.
flip flops-if i had it to do over again, i’d have used crocs (better for fording), but I’m still rocking the trail flip flops on my zero days in town. --not sure if i’d rock the crocs around town, so maybe a good call in the long run.
z rest-kneeling pad for household projects. It saved my knees for garage painting and tile and grout work last week. it’s not as fluffy as it used to be.
knife-fly fishing vest tool for turning about a dozen trout/year into dinner (95% catch and release).
Watch-Sunnto vector saved my ass on the trail, but it’s too big and clunky for daily life. It’s in the drawer. Casio fits my sleek city style now.
Western Mountaineering Sleeping bag-The 20 degree bag is now a 40 degree bag. Perfect for the climate that I like to camp in now. The feathers are all broken in nice like a old baseball glove or a pair of leather work boots.
petzl head lamp-elastic if fried, so it only fits with a wooley hat or a gelled out hair style.
I still have the tarp tent, but use a free standing now that I car camp more.
Everything else from the 14 lb baseweight is disintigrated, burned, or passed along to other hikers
