Well I am really going to be optimistic and anticipate being north of Damascus when Trail Days roll around. My husband and I hope to be a little past Pearisburg…any idea how we can arrange a shuttle or rent a car to get back for Trail Days…we have reservations and don’t want to miss the fun!! Thanks for your help!

Every year alumni thru-hikers offer rides to Trail Days from trail towns north and south of Damascus. Its almost impossible to know exaclty where you will be on a certain date, unless you miraculously stick to a schedule. (most thru-hikers throw their schedules away after a few weeks)
Perhaps the easiest thing to do is to get into the nearest town along the Trail the day before you need the ride. That way you could either catch one of the many hiker rides heading to Trail Days or call a shuttle service. Getting back from Trail Days is even easier - just put the word out and you’ll find hikers heading everywhere.

Thanks everyone…we just don’t want to miss any of the fun and you have given me some good ideas. Yep…impossible to know exactly where we will be but I would like to be familiar with some of my options…where might I hear about or find out about alumni hikers offering rides? Will they post on here as well? Off to pack a few maildrops…leaving in two weeks! Yeaaahaaa!!:cheers

I’d post on here nearer the time. There’s always a good contingent of folks traveling from the north who offer rides on Trailforums. Check the forums when you get to Pearisburg. You could also hitch, plenty of people do that because, again, many hiker alumni types are going in that direction. Who knows, it may be us picking you up!
