We found a pretty good deal on 1-way rental cars and wanted to spread the word. (We rented a car bc we didn’t want to ‘stow’ our dog as cargo.) Budget seems to have better prices than most. A lot of places advertise $20/day but then tack on a $200 1-way fee. Budget’s advertised price from Houston to Atlanta was $170 with unlimited miles. We were able to knock it down to $135 by

  • picking the car up at a non-airport location. (Taxes and fees are higher at the airport.)
  • and using our Sams card to get a discount. To get the discount you have to call them up on the phone, rather than reserve online.

See you guys out there, Heather

Another place to try one way cars are these automobile drive away companies. Here is one: http://www.autodriveawaydc.com. The way it works is you drive the car to it’s destination and only pay for the gas. It works great. I had to get from Columbus OH to Wash DC and I was able to drive a fairly new Ford full-sized Bronco for the cost of the gas.

Ok, you’ve definitely got me beat there! Here I was patting myself on the back… now I wish I’d known of these ‘driveaway’ companies. Never heard of that! Very cool.

We rented a car leaving Katahdin. Caught the bus from Millinocket to Bangor. Rented a car, oneway from Bangor to Roanoke, VA. I think it was Hertz. Cost us about $180 dollars. Split three ways, it was cheaper and easier than trying to fly. Good way to get home after the Big K.
