Anyone have a Go-Lite Den-2 and Nest I can borrow? Will pay for shipping. Promiss it won’t be damaged. I can just try it in the yard for a few nights. Like to try before I buy.

Bushwhack you’re a knowledgeable fellow. I see you want to try out the Den/Nest combo. I was wondering if a Campmore 8X10 silnylon tarp with a hikers mosquito net would be a good combo? I’ve never been a tarp guy but want to try one if the bugs can be controlled. Thoughts?

My wife says I’m a “mess” but thanks anyways. I have a hoot load of tents as we all do. Mostly from the comming of the go light phase of our sport. Anyone still have a tent with fiberglass poles? I weighed my Walrus Microswift and ya know that thing is four pounds?! Dragged it over the weekend on a short trip. Nice brick.
We thru hiked with a couple that had a Nest and Tarp and they really liked it. We’re just torn between being able to set of our current tents in seconds and having to “fiddle” with tarping it. (Opening umbrella do dodge falling birds and tarp comments) Not always an easy place to tie off, we don’t always carry trekking poles. Dunno, I can convert when it weighs a lot less.

http://www.campmor.com/webapp/commerce/command/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=226&prrfnbr=7580 loose the fiberpoles and tie it up? carbon fiber replacements?
Quite a few choices at a somewhat fits all price. Hmm. I ponder. Anyone else wanna convert me?

Can’t spell either. Anyone set up a tarp and had some high winds challenge it? We did a +70 in our Mountainhardware LightWedge2 and it was fine. Need some good tie downs for a tarp I think. Driving rain?

Was thinking more along these lines http://www.campmor.com/webapp/commerce/command/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=226&prrfnbr=7899
I think you could rap the ground ends of the net underneath your bag and be comfortable. It is rather $$$

Do you have one? Kind of looking for the bathtub floor and full bug net+the tarp.
Bushwhack
I think I’m looking for one that has the most usable space/shape/weight ratio. A tent has straight sides so you use up most of the vertical sufaces. Unless its a steep sided tarp, the edges where there is only a few inches to the ground, doesn’t do much.

Bushwhack, I have the Virga Tarptent which is a pretty tight fit but it’s all I needed for my 100 mile section hike in April. I could send it to you if you’re interested in checking it out a few days(I’ll need it back by mid July for a hiking trip). If I had it to do over again I think I should have gotten the Squall since it is only a few ounces more and has a lot more room. It has the sewn-in floor, but its not a bathtub floor. I didn’t have any water run in on me even through 3 nights of heavy T-storms, so as long as you don’t set it up in a depression you’ll be fine. Henry Shires has a pic posted of mine on his website(the one on Springer Mtn.). Let me know if you’re interested. You can e-mail me at Woodwardm@vei.net

Hmmm, I’m just not sure. I sleep really hot so max ventilation is a must where the wife is the opposite. She was wearing fleece over the weekend when I had the a/c on. I like the idea of Go-Lites nest as a stand alone but want a rainproof upper and lower sometimes. Oh, and can be set up with my eyes closed or in a blizzard. I think with the full time overhead roof I may get too hot. But I did look at that model, thanks N.

I too have been thinking about switching to a tart. As BW said, carrying a 4lb brick in my pack isn’t alot (MSR Zoid 1.5), and though luxurious, well…
The tarptent look real good, the reviews have all been great so far. Deciding between the Squall and Virga with sewn in floor, measured out both on floor and compared. I am 67" tall, with a TNF Cat’s Meow bag, . Like the idea of bringing my bag into tarp with me, will a Virga tarp (93"L, 54"/42" W) be enough room? The Squall seems HUGE for one person (93"L, 80"/51"W) for one person, plus might hamper finding a discrete spot to set up.
Never tarped before, always tent or roughed it sans shelter. Any problems with driving rain? Snakes or otherwise finding a way inside with sewn in flooring? JUst questions/thoughts…

Oooops!! How about, carrying a TARP, not a tart…and, carrying a 4lb brick IS ALOT…
Well, alot of typos in there…status post concussion and all…ok, the dancing lights and voices in my head aren’t real, the dancing lights and voices in my head aren’t real…the platypus climbing the wall in front of me isn’t real…ummm…I going to go lay down now…

I’ll take two please. After much consideration I think I’m going to make a tarp from the tarp tent plans Mr. Henry has so provided with a bath tub floor sewn in sew its all one piece. Finally i’ll be free of my poles. Anyone want to buy a fist full of tents? :cheers
