Resupply at Red's

Hiya, crossing my fingers that my sister and I will be able to start the JMT the 23rd of June and make it through whatever snow and raging rapids we come across. Planning on resupply at Vermillion or Muir Trail Ranch. We heard that Tuolumne is having trouble opening up, but resupply there is obviously pretty early into the hike. How convenient is a sending a package to Red’s Meadow? Do I have to send to a post office in Mammoth, or can I send to a Ranger Station at Devil’s Postpile? Thanks!

Road to RM was still closed as of two weeks ago. Supposedly they will be running the trams into the Devils Postpile starting the 29th of June. Not sure if access to RM will be available by the time of your trip.

Just a guess as I 1) live back east 2)don’t know you, but I’d try to push that date back as far as possible. If thats not possible be prepared- rotten snow, dangeruos fords- scares me! Good meals and small store at Reds- I resupplied there, and if you can I strongly suggest treating yourself to the MTRanch. Good luck and enjoy!

I aggree w/Nean. I would resupply at MTR if you can. They are EXTREMELY nice and there are hot springs there. If you don’t want to pay to stay there and use theirs, there are public hot springs across the stream. If you can get to Red’s meadow, then by all means! Staying at MTR may seem spendy now, but you won’t get out of VVR for less than about $140-$150, and honestly, I didn’t really dig that place anyway. In retrospect, we wished that we had done the MTR thing and that’s just what we’ll do next year for our PCT thru hike.
