the book lists it as “short-term resupply”. can i get stuff like ramen’s, bagels, peanut butter and some breakfast-type stuff in Troutdale?

IF you can get a hitch, I waited an hour then walk half way, there is a 7-11 of sorts. Right, at the road, about two miles down hill. A long walk with no shoulder. Better would be to carry to Parnership Shelter and then hitch down to Marion, piece-o- cake. Pizza Hut or the place that delivers to the shelter. Slow service though.
I belive there is a dirt forest service road you cross after the highlands. Take that to the right and it will shorten he walk out to VA 16, right to “town” 1.2 ish. I don’t have a map handy, sorry.

i hiked in '01… and we stopped in troutdale to call our mom’s for M-day… nice thought but as i remember, thank goodness we didn’t need any food…not real impressive. wait til you get to partnership… it is an oasis in the wilderness.
