Resupply Near Rutland/Wallingford

I’m planning a section hike on the LT this summer that’ll require a re-supply somewhere near Rutland, VT. My AT guide mentions a store 1.0 miles west of the trail on route #103 in what looks to be East Clarendon. This store is listed as a camping gear supplier in the guide book which would seem a good place to send a drop box. Does anyone know the name of this store, or have a better idea for the drop box in this stretch of trail? Would the End-to-Ender’s guide book contain more useful information in this regard? Even though I’ve never spent more then one week at a time on the trail perhaps it’s worth the purchase.

Thanks for your help,

Bootjuice,
At Vt. 103, The camping gear supplier “Oasis Sports”, which was located above the Clarendon General Store, has been out of business for five years or more. The Clarendon General Store, (802)786-0948, is still in business, limited supplies, very limited…call them for maildrop information. Wallingford, 2.8 miles west from the Trailhead at Vt. 140, has a postoffice,a hardware store, three convenience stores and a couple of small restaurants.

Thank you for the info MrsGorp. It should be most helpful. I’ll remember you when I’m on the trail. If you’re out there look for me in early July.

There is a bus that will stop and pick you up on RT 4 just north of Killington and take you into Rutland for a nominal fee (under $5 round trip). there you will find large supermarkets and most everything else you may need. There is even an hostel in town which is very cozy. Take a look at the thru hiker’s companion put out by the the AHLDHA association for complete details.8)

Thanks for the info Stealthblew. That may just work into my plans. Look for me, I’ll be the one with mud in my shoes.

a good place to hang for a night, bus into Rutland, and drink great beer, if that’s the preference…
