Thanks to postings here, White Blaze and elsewhere, 2000 Miles to Maine DVD has found its way into the hands of more hikers through the website We’ve also been distributing through retailers such as Mountain Crossings, Mt. Rogers Outfitters, Bluff Mountain Outfitters. I’d love suggestions about other outfitters along the trail that you think I should contact (phone numbers appreciated). As a homebrew-grassroots operation, any help is appreciated.

Thanks so much

Don’t have their contact info readily available where I’m sitting, but it’s available in Wingfoot’s guide, the Companion, or both.

Rockfish Gap Outfitters, Waynesboro VA

Wilderness Voyagers, Harrisonburg VA

Weasel Creek Outfitters, Front Royal VA

The Outfitter at Harpers Ferry, Harpers Ferry, WV

I’ve seen “homebrew-grassroots” type merchandise at each of these, along with the usual big-name selections. Seems if you’re offering a fair financial split these and other retail stores like them would be friendly to your approach. After all, the independent outfitter today has a lot more in common with you, money-wise and operationally, than they do with Galyans, Dick’s, Wal-Mart, REI, EMS, etc.–not that the last two wouldn’t also be worth making contact with.

has contact info too. Check for free at www.aldha.org. Don’t advertise on Trailplace without talking to Wingfoot first. A few thoughts; are you kicking back a little bit to Trail Journals and WhiteBlaze for helping you spread the word? And consider sending some comp copies out to hostels, I’m certain you’d get some sales from AT hikers who have watched the movie during their stay.

Thanks so much for the suggestions. Rick over at White Blaze has been great. I got in touch with him when he first ordered a video and we came up with an arrangement that I would make donations to White Blaze as orders came in from postings there. Wingfoot, as you point out, is dead set against any sort of advertising, though he let me post about a free screening at Trail Days – almost 100 people attended those screenings. As for kicking back to Trail Journals, I just simply haven’t been in touch with the powers that be – yet. I should though, as a lot of folks come through here. Also, the movie is now listed at Amazon so I feel like I’ve entered the big leagues

I am trying both REI and EMS. Tough nuts to crack though, despite the very positive feedback I’ve received.:cheers
