Does anyone know if it is difficult to find a ride back to Harper’s Ferry from the Penn-Mar line? I noticed A-Train hitched from P-M beck to H.F. I am going S to N.

I was curious so I looked at mapquest driving directions. looks like a pretty easy hitch, but it might require a couple different rides. You may want to check out the ATC website to see if there is someone out that way to provide a shuttle. They are based in Harpers and probably know the area very well.
On a side note… If you do hitch from Pen Mar beware of a woman in a red caravan with wood panelling. We had a mail drop in Blue Ridge Summit (about 1.5 off the trail) right near the state line there. If it was over .5 we’d hitch as we were lazy bastards. Anyhow, we got up the road easily, but it took us a little longer to get back. We noticed this caravan go by, 5 min later it was back doing a U turn to pick us up. The lady had driven by, mulled something over in her head, decided to turn around and come get us. We get in the back, she locks us in, turns around and says…
“I aint never gonna see you two again so I’m gonna practice my church songs in front of an audience. I got to sing this Sunday and I haven’t never sung in front of anyone.”
She pops in a tape, starts driving and, starts singing. She actually wasn’t too bad, but I am not a religious fellow and church songs are not my cup of tea. 2 minutes later we show up at the trailhead. Its only 1.5 miles away. She keeps the doors locked and says.
“You have to stay til the end.”
She finally let us out. Forced us to take an entire loaf of bread. “Thanks, but we can’t carry it” “TAKE IT!” "okay okay, thank you, thank you, god bless, RUN!)
What a day!

I have checked out a couple of local yokels who will transport me cheap either way – down to up or visa versa. Thanks for the Church Lady tip. Bread??? You mean like…white sandwich Wonder Bread in a bag? There’s a pound you don’t need – neither in the pack nor on the waist.
