I’m looking to spot a car to do a 2 day slack pack to fill in a section that i missed earlier this year.
it is between gifford woods and south pomphrey road.
Chateauquay road looks like the middle . the trail maps show a parking area to the north but the book discribes to reach it from the south. which is the best way in and how do i find it? Also how passable is the road with a small car and is it safe to leave over night?

where is she

The place you are referring to (I believe) is the road that goes in nearest to the Stony Brook shelter. If that is the one, it is passable up to the AT from the Stony Brook road side, which comes off from Rt. 100. I do not think you can get a car in much past that point, as it is an active logging road and can be pretty rough. However, if you drive in from Rt. 100 on the Stony Brook road, you can access the AT from there and should find a place to park. It is very isolated out there and I do not know if there are issues with vandalism (I have never heard of any, but you never know). Probably less of a chance if it is mid-week. Just don’t leave anything visible, etc.
