Did I read correctly that both roads to the Greylock summit will be closed 07 and 08?? If so, why? Thanks a bunch for response.

Dan, here is a news release on what’s happening with the roads to Mt. Greylock. It includes who and what it will affect and the projected time frame for this project.

Hopefully during the time the roads are closed they will find someone to run the lodge at the top. This whole thing will certainly affect all of us who live here that use the mountain for a range of different activities.
Draggin (AT class of 2005) will be opening a small Bike/Outfitter shop across from the church hostel in the town of Cheshire, Massachusetts for those hikers needing fuel and basic supplies to get them into the state of Vermont or for those heading South heading toward Dalton. Cheshire is located just before the climb up Greylock Mountain if you are heading North for those wondering where it is.
If anyone has any suggestions for needed supplies on this section of the trail, send an email to Draggin at the following address (hddragon@hotmail.com) and I’m sure he will gladly stock it.
Also Cheshire once again has a restaurant. It just opened and is only a short walk South on the bike path towards the lake. For those who stay at the Church Hostel who wish to grab a bite to eat this is within walking distance.
Also for anyone that stays in Cheshire, be sure to stop at the little ice cream shop located on the bike path, she not only serves ice cream but sandwiches too. Then lastly there is the Shell station, a little pricey but good for some things. Cheshire really is a nice little town. Do enjoy it when you pass through.
I wish all those on a trail a great year and good luck to the class of 2007! See you out there…Jewels
PS: I have tried to post this 3 times…I hope it goes through this time…or maybe it will post all three times and my internet is just being delayed…hope not but please stay with me guys, remember I’m from a small town.

too bad about the roads…paw-ee and i had drops at bascom lodge in both '03 and '06…last year the lodge seemed friendlier and better supplied to feed/help hikers, too…(not that great in '03)…we could totally have eaten there, but we’d just received snacks there in our drop…but wow!..we loved cheshire!..the catholic church more than accomodated us for (2) quiet, comfortable evenings inside on the floor of one of the sunday school classrooms…it’s very clean (remember to keep it that way) and air conditioned!..i don’t have any idea if they’ll accept packages…but the real hero, yes, for us last year was that sweet lady at the icecream shop with her delicious treats!..God bless her icecream and sandwich serving soul!!!
