I am sad to see it go too. I have passed it by twice and now I realize that I will never see it for myself.
But in the good news department, while Rusty may be closed, the trail goes on. In the year I thru-hiked, White House Landing opened in the Wilderness. There is a new hostel in Erwin thanks to Ms. Janet. There is supposed to be a new hostel in Davenport Gap. And so many more treasures to be discovered. And it would not be trail magic if one knew where it all was.
The trail is organic. It thrives, grows, recedes, and expands. Thank God it is alive.
There was a wise philosopher who noted that you can not step in the same river more than once. I guess that is true of the trail. I am so glad it changes. Gives me something to go back to that will be in constant change but never change the gift it gives me as I hike it.
See y’all on the trail…
Mr. Boo
