Safe Parking - Appalachian Trail

I am looking to leave two cars for a 9 day hike in July. One would be at VT 100 and the other at NH 112. I was thinking maybe the park in VT would let me leave one there. Any suggestions rather than leaving them on the side of the road would be appreciated. Thanks!

Roadrunner,

The site to look at for AT parking is the Appalachian Trail Parking site run by Cyndi and David Rohland. For the section you're looking at, you'll want to try and park at Gifford Woods State Park, but you'll need to call them as there's not any parking info on the website currently. At the north end, consult this page on the Rohland's site. The page for White Mountain National Forest parking permits should tell you what you need to know about the lot requirements at that end.

Hope this helps. Good luck and good hiking.

Strategic, Thanks for the info especially the fact that a permit may be required at NH112. Last time I was in thw Whites ( a while ago) no permit was required.

A few years back, I was going to park my Jeep at the parking area just down from The Inn at Long Trail. I pulled in and the cars on both sides of me had smashed out windows. I decided to try to find some other place to park. I stopped at Gifford Woods State Park and asked for a good place to park. They said I could park at the state park for a fee. It was a few dollars a day and very safe.
