Safe parking spot

I am planning to do the section from Sams Gap to Erwin.
Would like to know if there is a safe place to leave a car in Erwin where the trail crosses.It will only be for 1 night.

Maybe at the campground but you better ask first.

The Holiday Inn Express allows hikers to park for free. It is about a mile from the trailhead at the Nolichuckey River but it is very safe. If you are parking another car at Sams Gap you need to know that I-26 recently opened across Sams Gap and you can no longer access the trailhead parking from the highway.
