I suggest to start in march in glacier! we did on skis in 1979. Snow camping makes you so much more efficient! we created our own guide and got a little help from gregory Mt. products and north face. The trail was usually was 6 feet under snow so hit marks were at our feet. I went with 4 other guys. 3 of them as well as myself did pct in 77 and 75. Marty of san diego truckers!!!

I did most of the CDT in snow in 2002 and it was tougher than the last time i did it by far. The main reason was because you just can’t go as fast. This is a problem in many areas that you must resupply. (Bob Marshall is the longest and you will be there in a week or 2 after starting) Also, you need to carry more gear to camp in snow. So, please be aware of how much weight you will have to carry, especially in the “Bob” I guess if you can make it through there, you can make it anywhere. (all of Montana would be a problem.) When i hiked the CDT the 1st time (98) i hiked all of Montana and only saw 2 other hikers (a husband and wife together) that’s 600+ miles of alone time. When i hiked it in 2002, we saw no other hikers for over 1500 miles as we started in March. Lots of snow, even in August we still had snow. Enjoy! I’d be interested to hear how you did.
