Sandals - Appalachian Trail

I noticed some AT hikers wearing some foam-like slip-on flip-flops in town and around camp. They were awesome! Super light and comfortable. My problem is I forgot who makes them and I want to buy a pair. Some of them had a heel strap and some of them didn’t if that helps identify them. Also, do you recommend the strap or no strap? Thanks for any help.

Most of the hikers I was with bought Waldies or Crocs at Neels Gap. They are very light clog-like shoes that weigh practically nothing. We strapped them to the back of our packs and use them when we get into camp. Waldies do not have straps, Crocs do. The straps pivot so you can wear them or not. I like the straps and the fact that you have the option of using it or not.

Thank you, oldkathy!!! That is exactly the shoe I was looking for. I wish they would have had them in my 01 hike…

Yeah, they’re crocs/waldies. I’m a crocs fan, as oldkathy mentioned you can use the strap if you want, or leave it folded forward to use your crocs like waldies. You can get them at crocs.com or our shop at Neel Gap 706 745 6095. Have fun!

Weight varies a bunch depending on size, but I’m thinking something like 7-8oz per pair?

Heatmizer:

i like the Crocs (the newer version of the Waldies)…but, if you wanna ck out the newer, lighter camp shoe…
check out QUARKS! I saw some recently in an outfitter store in Highlands,NC & havent seen them since in other stores…but they are lite, lite, lite! they float & super comfy! They are uni-sex. (same shoe for women AND men)
but NOT cheap…about $45-50 a pair!

check 'em out! http://www.quarkgear.com/

see ya’ll UP the trail!
