From the 1/31/05 NPS “Morning Report”:

An AT hiker who has been the subject of many posts on this and other AT-related sites has been arrested for various crimes on and near the Trail.

Former SNP Ranger Todd Remaley, now the chief A.T. law enforcement officer based out of Boiling Springs, played a significant role . . .

Accused Thief Arrested in Georgia

On January 28th, a 33-year-old Rhode Island man who reportedly used the trail name “Saved” was arrested in rural Georgia on state fugitive warrants from Virginia as a suspect in a series of residential break-ins and car thefts off the Appalachian National Scenic Trail in Wintergreen, Virginia. Procedures are being instituted to extradite David Lescoe from Middle, Georgia, to Wintergreen. Ranger Todd Remaley coordinated the federal side of the investigation in conjunction with Forest Service and local law enforcement officers. The task force had been looking for Lescoe on and near the trail since last September after two break-ins were reported and a stolen automobile was recovered at the Appalachian Trail parking area along the James River. [Submitted by Robert Gray, Chief Ranger]

Should have used caught or shifty, or stupid. Saved just doesn’t seem to fit.

Considering the level of hate for Christians found in the hiker community, Saved was probably a good name for him. I know Im glad his name can be used as a slam against fundies. Rock on Saved!

HAHAHA

I’m no friend of the Moral Majority, far far from it–but that’s just over the top.

He might just be relying on forgiveness like so many of my fellow Christian brothers and sisters.

I bet he’s a mormon. They seem to be really good at doing the exact opposite of what they profess to others (eg Mark Hacking). The Angel Moroni could very well have come down and told him to do it…so he may have just been doing god’s work (eg Dan and Ron Lafferty). Yep, definitely a mormon (moron?).

Isn’t it bad karma to make fun of the stupid?

(And I’m referring to criminals, not Mormons. And, most importantly, this is the United States, not Kosovo. People can worship tree bark if they want to.)

What goes around comes around…:cheers

What do you mean by “the level of hate for christians in the hiking community”? I see absolutely no evidence of that. I do see a level of intolerance towards people who try to push there views unsolicited on others. Anytime a liberal weenie or conservative warmonger starts preaching on this forum they usually get an immediate response but you don’t hear them whining about the level of hate for them. On second thought I guess you do. Never mind.

racism is racism is racism.

if somebody was to come on and start making ethnic slurrs and offensive comments, that would be totally unacceptable. especially since this site is supposed to be for hiking!
since when is ethnic racism any different from religous racism? its not! and neither one of them belong here on this site. everybody has a right to their own opinion and beliefs. that doesnt give someone else a right to belittle them and treat them like a lower being on the chain of humanity. if you dont like christians, mormons, hindus, or any other relgions out there, that is your right but keep that to yourself please, and especially DO NOT bring your hatred on to this site.

it all comes down to what our mom's all told us "if you dont have something nice to say, then dont say anything at all". if you sit and just think about that saying, it really does ring true. there are so many people that i know that would be absolutely silent if they went by that saying. that is really to bad. why cant we have good things to say about people? why not look at the good sides of people and their differences instead of focusing on the bad. one reason is the influence of the media.

please try and be considerate of others.

happy hiking days ahead.

Stop all the hatred and meanness. Saved needs our prayers not condemnation.

Let’s all join in a round of Kumbaya.

“People can worship tree bark if they want to.”

I just read that, Tyger, and I can’t stop laughing. I don’t know why. I just can’t stop laughing.

Please keep it up.

Sure you can worship bark but just remember not to put us all in one basket—er, I mean—napsack.

Sure some people might worship fir bark but I just can’t see their point at all. The little bumps are full of sticky sap that gets all over everything. Sure it smells good but there’s more to bark than just smell.

I lean toward Maple bark but am pretty much non-debarkenominational my self. In fact some might even call me an bark-atheist.

Just don’t ask me to kiss your fir.

Tyger- no one said Mormons can’t worship whatever they want, just that they are laughably stupid for doing so. Worshipping tree bark would probably make more sense than worshipping the word of a pervert/criminal with some magic rocks.

Orion- Just to get you up to date, races and religions are two different things. Maybe you should at least figure that out before bleeding your heart out all over a discussion board. Perhaps you should also check into the well-documented history of church-sponsored racism and religious discrimination that has existed within the Mormon church since its inception.

Thanks for the chuckle, though, I find it very amusing when people like you try to sound intelligent.

I stick to my original statement, I believe “Saved” is definitely Mormon.

Dear Everybody,

  1. It should be clear by now, that some people post, purposely, false incendiary remarks, simply to trigger emotional responses from other people. Think first, and don’t rise to the bait. Don’t bother trying to reason with the perpetrator, as the remarks are not serious, nor honest, to begin with and the individual will not seriously consider your argument. The purpose is simply to irritate you and laugh privately at your outrage.

  2. Keep in mind that other people, with respect to how we feel, and their social standing, have only the power we give them. Don’t give them any; don’t yield your power to them. There’s no need. Ultimately, they, and their comments, will fade away for lack of substance.

  3. Consider the direction of the world as a whole. They are being left behind; choosing to be left behind.

Sincerely–Conan.

  4. Let them go.
