Sawyer squeeze - Pacific Crest Trail

This seems to be the hot new item. I picked one up at rei thinking it would be an awesome way to have water when I want water by simply screwing it onto the top of a 2L platy bag and drinking from it… that plan was foiled when I attempted in my kitchen and water leaked everywhere. It’s disappointing because I thought someone had finally made a product that was the solution. I haven’t found any adapters so it can thread properly, and prefer to go without a drinking hose (inline method). I guess I may just be back to aquamira… any thoughts?

I use the 32 oz bag that comes with the sawyer squeeze to fill up my bladder and then refill the bag a second time to have water at camp. I also sometimes drink direcly from the filter attached to the bag when at a creek. It also easily screws on a plastic coke bottle, among others. It has been bulletproof so far, but does require the ability to get the bag below the water line. Might not be ideal for shallow pools that require siphoning (like out west) but works well in the creeks and water sources of the appalachians. NOTE TO SAWYER: put a carabiner or hole in the top or corner of the bag so I can attach it to my backpack instead of carrying it or putting it in a pocket.

I do have a “big mouth” bladder, though. It makes it much easier to refill.

Based on the recommendation of some friends of mine from the PCT, I bought the Sawyer Squeeze and ordered some other evernew water bladders to replace the Sawyer bladders - http://gossamergear.com/etc/hydration/evernew-water-bladder.html

I just started using it and like it. I take an empty washed out mountainhouse bag and use it to dip in smaller water sources then fill the sawyer bag. Takes just as long to gather water as my old pump but alot less work. Claims to filter 1 million gallons. Also cheaper at $50 vurse buying a replacement cartridge for $32 each time. I’ve never used Aquamira but I would say it beats using a Pump Filter. Also half as heavy. Sawyer bag(32oz), filter, mountainhouse bag about 6 oz. All roll up together.
