Search for hikers on CT AT

This came across my fire department pager tonight at 10PM EST… “Kent CT, search in progress Appalachian Trail North of Rt 8. - 12 hikers missing in contact with PD by cell phone, L/S assisting”

I live in CT and it’s pretty hard to get lost on our section of the trail. I found it really odd that someone got lost on a Tuesday evening. Usually it’s the weekend.

If the SOBOs are around they’ll get a pretty good light show from Life Star helicopter.

If I get any updates or a link to a news story I’ll post it in the morning.

I live in this area of CT also…I have not heard anything about this…what happened? 12 missing hikers requiring lifestar evac off the AT would certainly make the news here…what’s up with this?

I haven’t been able to find a story online to get some follow up info. They didn’t need an evac. The copter was used to home in on the hikers. It’s got this bright-as-the-sun light on the front of it. Since the hikers were on the cell phone with the PD, they probably could lead the helicopter to them by seeing the light in the sky.

I know one of the flight nurses. I’ll ask her what happened that night.
