The perfect window varies year to year, but your best bet is from early July through September. Depending upon winter and spring snowfall, starting in mid June usually works out, but not always. There is a chance of early snow in September, but that is unusual and generally it is gone within a day or two. September is usually a little drier than August, which is a plus. I really enjoy the CT then. Most hikers (and tourists) are gone, so the trail is more solitary. If you want to increase your chances of seeing bears, fall is the best time because they tend to concentrate at higher elevations just below treeline where berries ripen late in the season.

thanks bearcreek! Living in the Northwest, I would hate to miss out on the two months of summer we actually have to enjoy the backcountry free of snow and rain up here, hence the appeal of a slightly later start and finish. Cheers
