Section 6 snow?

Hello to all! How is the snow cover through section 6? My wife and I have put this hike off all summer because of the deep snow pack and I am hoping that we will not need a GPS! I did do some hiking on the Freemont Pass side of the Ten Mile range and the snow pack has been eroded by the heavy rains the past 3 weeks. We are both teachers and as you can imagine our summer is coming to an end within the next two weeks, so any tips/hints/reports would be greatly welcomed.

Weatherman,

I don’t know about the snow. Somehow and I are planning to take the old trail which splits off at mile 19.7. That should avoid the snowy areas.

Also, there is some logging going on in the area between 19.7 and Breckenridge. I’ve been told any delays won’t be long.

Say hi if you see us. We will be carrying red and blue packs. We plan to be in that section on the 13th and 14th.

Trail users have reported there’s little or no snow left in Segment 6 and snowpack there is no longer a problem. Logging…yes, see newspaper article via following link:

No snow in Seg 6, but as of 10 days ago, still snow for some of the traverses across Copper Mountain in Seg 7. Try and hit it early in day if it’s still there, because some sections are steep.

Thanks for all the info. The logging was a surprise, we will be contacting the ranger district for more info. We will be out 7th and finsh up the 9th or 10th depending on side trips. Thanks!

I contacted the ranger and any delays should be short.
