hello everyone,

I’m planning to hike the northern thirty miles of Shenandoah and then on to Delaware Water Gap PA, starting May 17, ending around June 4 or so. How crowded will the trail be? where will the thru-hikers be then? What are some good resupply towns? any other suggestions?

many thanks,

Because you will be hiking before Memorial Day, I expect that the AT will be fairly quite, even in Shenandoah National Park. Schools are not out yet.

But, I suspect that because the weather is getting nice, the trail and shelters will be crowded with weekenders on Friday and Saturday night.

Thru-hikers are usually bunched around Damascus in Mid May for Trail Days. They will spread out after that. The ones that started early, like in March will probably be in the Pennsylvania in late May and early June.

For resupply information, get the ALDHA Companion or Wingfoot’s Handbook.
