Section-hike from Campo to Lakeshore

Hello,
I am planning a section-hike from the start of the trail at Campo to Lakeshore. I was hoping for some advice on the cheapest way to get to the southern terminus near Campo and to get back, once I get to Lakeshore. I have read a few posts on here that says it is not wise to park a car long-term anywhere in Campo. Would the best idea be to park somewhere in San Diego and get a bus to Campo? Any other options?

Also, what would be the cheapest and easiest way to get back to my car in San Diego from Lakeshore? Do you think it would be difficult to hitchike from Lakeshore to Fresno, so that I could catch a greyhound there back to San Diego? Or would there be anyone to contact to get a shuttle to do this? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

The cheapest way to get to the border would be to arrange a ride with one of the San Diego trail angels who regularly take people to the border during April and May.

Bob Riese, Barney and Sandi Mann, or Girlscout can all get you to the border. There are a couple of others as well.

Thanks Scott. How do I get in contact with the people you mentioned? Do you have their phone numbers?

One such possibility is listed here. http://www.pcta.org/planning/during_trip/services.asp

If Boomer can’t do it, he can refer you to the others that Scott Bryce mentioned, and they might. This isn’t a promise, but they all do an incredible job helping out as many hikers as they can.
