Section Hike in September

I may have up to four weeks to do a section hike of the AT or PCT. I’m leaning towards the AT but am looking for some input. My main concern is with water in So Cal and bad weather in WA. I’m looking at hiking between sept. 6 and Oct. 6th.

Jalan jalan- There is a thread if you look at the next page back with a few of ideas for a hike similar to what you are planning. Maybe something like Mt whitney North as far as you can make it in 4 weeks would be fun.

Just to Clarify, I have already hiked So cal from the border to I-15 (2days south of wrightwood). I have also hiked from Kennedy Meadows/Whitney to Echo Summit (near Tahoe). So if I were to hike the PCT it would probably be sections north of Tahoe (Echo summit).

My concern in completing I-15 to Kennedy Meadows would be water. My concern hiking North of Tahoe would be early snow.

Early snow is normally not an issue until after mid October. In '05 i finished a flip-flop PCT thru-hike on Whitney on October 9th. Perfect conditions - very few hikers in the Sierra and NO bugs. (a light dusting of snow at the end of September)

I talked to lots of locals in towns, etc. (I was concerned about the snow) & they all said the same thing - you’re good to go until mid October. Not one of them could ever remember a major storm in the Sierra before October 15th…
