Help again. I am the large man ready to hike again. I hike the Shannondawa park last year and want to start at springer this year. I am driving down to Altanta for some business I need to attend to and then I will be hiking. I have 10 to 14 days this year. question 1. where do I park my van that will be safe and how much does it cost. 2 I plan on taking it slow so I dont know how far I will get as my knees are acting up this year, how should I get back to my van when I am done. 3 I dont want to carry 10 days worth of food. where is it best to resupply or should I try to drop a package somewhere along the way. and lastly should I hike the approach trail or not? just a few questions… Thanks

you can park at amicalola falls for 3 bucks next to the ranger’s office. hike as far as you want and hitch back anywhere in GA. You can also call the hiker hostel in dalonega and they will shuttle you for a fee. they are former hiker’s profile and almanac. they’ve got a website, i think you can get to by links from the home page. they are located just a few miles from woody gap, so if the knees aren’t what you wanted you can bail there.

There are a few places you can resupply. Neels Gap, Hiawassee, and then Franklin if you get that far. You only need 4-5 days of food.
