Section Hike - The Colorado Trail

Was wondering if any of you folks could suggest a logical location to divide the trail into a two-year hike. I’m thinking of possibly spending no more than 3 weeks each year for two consecutive years to complete the trail. Most important would be public transportation access and at least some minimal facilities for either pre-hike or post-hike showers and gorging!

I’ve done long-distance hiking many years ago, but for the past couple of decades have been limited to no more than 2 week trips. About three weeks in one block of time is about the limit I could arrange until after retirement - still too far away to wait.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, looked through the archives and nothing jumped out at me. I’m just starting to consider this.

Thanks for any help,
Lyle

I’d go with Salida. It’s about at the halfway point. Trailways bus service to and from plus plenty of places to eat, motels and an outfitter. If you have time check out the mountain bike museum at the bike shop, kinda cool. If your bicycle trash like me that is. Have fun.

Does Salida still have bus service? Salida is a great town.

Last time I was there I took the bus from Salida to Canon City. And that was in August of '05. If I remember correctly you could take the bus from Denver to Pueblo then over to either Durango or Grand Junction. You might want to check with Trailways on that. Or I will since I am thinking of going back out there again and I will need a way back from Durango.
