Seeking advice re: shuttles for my plans to hike 4-5 day stretches mid-July through Aug with NB thru-hiker Shakedown Cruise who is enroute to Katadin (plans to arrive shortly after Labor Day). I hope to drive to a good shuttle location N of PA, hike with him for a few days, then return to the car and move it further N - hike for a few more days, etc.
Hope to find good (easy) shuttle locations - and pretty hikes. Advice???

R&R. Go to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, then go to Hike the Trail, then go to Shuttle List and parking tips. As a veteran of many section hikes, I will be glad to help you out.
I have read some of Shakedown’s journal, he is about half-way there. You should know that by the time that SC has reached Nortern PA the hiking pace will be alot different than someone doing a section hike (like yourself). He may have friends on the AT that have become very important to him and wants to be with them. No reflection on you. But many times people or family that join a thru-hiker for a little bit of time do not always have a great experience hiking.
I would suggest meeting him at a location along the trail near a hotel or hostel, buying him a couple of meals, letting him do laundry, taking him to a movie, letting him re-supply, etc.

Thanks so much! you have identified exactly what I am searching for and I shall look at the sites you suggest. He is 13 miles from Harper’s Ferry as of yesterday. And he has told me about the rocky N part of PA. He suggested I try to join him for four or five days at a time with connections to a hostel or hotel near the trail because I am an inexperienced hiker. My trail name is R&R because that is exactly what I provide (besides being Ron and the Reverend!) Trail Days was the second time he had ten days “off the AT.” He is enjoying a couple days near Harper’s Ferry tonight with some old friends who live near by.
I am grateful for the links and advice; will check on areas,shuttles, hostels and hotels N of PA. Starting late August, I can park the car, hike for a few days, move the car and hike another day or two to continue N towards Katadin until it is pick up time. You are very kind!
