Segment 4 - The Colorado Trail

Memorial Day weekend, 2004.

Hiked from mile 3.1 to 10.7 on Segment 4. The ridge at 7.4 has a few patches of snow, but the trail is clear and dry. The area is very dry. Expect open fire bans in Pike National Forest soon. All of the water sources listed in the data book will probably have a flow throughout the hiking season.

It was 15 degrees in camp at 10,900 feet on the morning of the 31st with a light snow.

Thanks for the info. Do you think the water situation on the trail overall will be good this year?

If you have the data book, note that I collected the data in the driest year in CO history (2002). If it says they’re dependable, they probably are running. Snowpack and heat patterns are the key. Sorry I don’t have a better answer.

Enjoy it -great trail!
