The Appalachian Trail Conservancy has issued the following alert:

The National Weather Service has issued warnings for dangerously low temperatures and wind chill for Monday evening into Tuesday, with record lows possible along portions of the southern half of the A.T. Temperatures below zero are expected in places, and wind chills may reach 30 below or lower. There have already been several weather-related hiker rescues this winter. Please use extreme caution; stay indoors unless you and members of your party all have extensive winter backpacking experience and specialized winter gear for arctic conditions (Temps below zero with wind chills to minus 50-degrees F). You are responsible for your own safety.
