Shawangunks - Appalachian Trail

This shockingly gorgeous mountain ridge is in New York State: it IS a part of the Appalachian Mountain chain, it IS NOT on the Appalachian Trail, but oh, do I wish it were!! It is so spectacularly beautiful! It is an extension of the Kittatinny Ridge from NJ (with its gray/white conglomerate rocks) but with cliffs and vistas that are truly amazing…Has anyone out there been here?

Never been but the climbing is said to be first class. Hope to go one day.

my sister and i hiked to gertrude’s nose this winter and were totally blown away. i understand that the region is in some imminent threat of development. the NY-NJ Trail Conference (nynjtc.org) has more information… to lose this place to a golf resort would suck BIG TIME.

when i said “development” i meant, “ruination”. Anyone who is in the region, please help…money or other…see nynjtc.org, seriously! this is one of the eastern wonders. i’m not kidding.
