I think this means there are no (or may be no) more hostels in Monson.
Lakeshore House is no more, since the owner died last summer. Pie Lady’s place is now a private residence.
I think - think - Pie Lady is still doing shuttles, but not running a hostel.
If Shaw’s goes away, then there will be not only no hostels, but no place - other than the P.O. - to send a maildrop. Not even White House Landing, in the Wilderness.
The asking price for Shaw’s is a bit too steep. It’s not possible that it could be purchased as a business - but only a private residence. But obviously I’m not a Realtor, so what do I know.
I’m just kind of stupefied that there isn’t more of a . . . bunch of posts (can’t think of the proper word) concerning this topic.

from wingfoots 2006 handbook update from trailplace.com:
Lakeshore House in Monson has new owners and will be open and offering services as described in the handbook (some rates may increase slightly due to energy costs); also, now offers shower-only for non-guests for $5 and will take credit cards; check in by 3pm, check out by 10am; open 7 days.

Way too much money. You could buy or build a house closer
to the trail and open your own hostle. this area is not very
high end and if any one is thinking of making a killing off thru hikers they should think twice.

what i understand is that shaw’s will not be open this year, unless someone buys it–see the thread over at whiteblaze that is mentioned above. there has been brainstorming going over there about buying shaw’s.
keith jr is living in the house across the street with his wife and kids and does not have time to run the hostel. pat, keith sr.'s wife, is moving out west with other family.
