Hi youngndum. Last time I saw you we were in New hampshire around Wolf mt. I hope all is well.
I beleive that a 8’x10’ sil-nylon tarp with parachute cord would give you more flexibility to set up with and more room for sleeping with slightly less weight to carry on your back. I’ve used this set-up for years with great results. I stayed dry in my tarp by just pitching it low in bad weather.
Hope to see you on the trail again someday.:cheers

I have a 10x10 tarp and an OR bug bivy, but I wanted to see if there was any lighter optioin.

The Wild Oasis is only 13oz and provides bug protection (flying). The tarp will give more covered room. I’ve used both and it’s always a trade-off, but the Wild Oasis is the lightest and good protection, if that is your main concern.

YoungNDum,

I hear Henry Shires has a new Tarp Tent model on the way - the SubLite (I think) - 17/18 Oz., side entry, full floor, good size, etc.

Might wait.

Gossamer Gear has a new shelter at 1lb. “The One”
Don’t know how it performs.
Another option anyway.
