How frequent are shelters along the JMT? I see references to them in various postings, and wonder if they are a regular occurance or a sporadic treat.

shelters in the AT since are non-existent on the JMT. there is one stone hut, called Muir Hut at Muir pass. built in 1930’s it provides shelter for hikers in case of a storm. it can snow anytime of the year there. the pass is slightly below 12,000ft. in fact, last year while hiking out of yosemite valley in the rain on aug. 15th, it was snowing on muir pass and mt. whitney.
other than that, you have a resort at reds meadow, vvr, muir trail ranch, and the shelter on top of mt. whitney.

Thanks. I hadn’t planned on using or expected to see shelter along the JMT, but after seeing a few references I wondered if I’d missed a section in my guidebook.
