I’ve read and heard that shenadoa NP has a lot of campstores along the trail. I have a short drop about five days before shenadoa and one to get me through the park. Can I rely on the camp stores to keep me fed and eliminate one of the drops?
thanks,scott

We ate our way through the part at the stores; Big Meadows and Skyland but you have to get there when they are open. Call the park for open dates which vary.

There is an abundance of food in the park. However it is expensive at the Grills ($4 for a burger that doesn’t even come with cheese!). I would recommend starting the park with at least two days worth of food since you can resupply at several of the waysides. Just be mindful of the time of year as well as when they close at night.

By the way, water is scarce. Be careful if stealth camping as the park folks will not be happy. There are a few closed shelters before Big Meadows, these are sometimes checked by the Officers. They WILL fine you, but if you have to stop you have to. They are very nice, though, they even gave us a ride after we broke up a rumble between some Nascar supports at Big Meadows.
