I’m interested in any information regarding back country camping in the northern section of the Shenandoah park and any good source for trail maps for about a 4 day hike? Thank you. Parttime

Aside from stealth sites and shelters (huts in SNP parlance) along the AT, there are great campsites on blue-blazed side trails east and west. You might consider something in the area where the Thornton River and Hull School Trails intersect, the Piney Ridge or Piney Branch Trails, Jeremy’s Run Trail, Overall Run’s lower habitat and connecting trails, or the Little Devils Stairs Trail before it gets to resemble climbing in the Whites.

Also search for hikes on www.hikingupward.com.

PATC publishes a map for each of the three districts in the SNP. In my opinion, the best. Go to www.patc.net.
