Shenandoah in 6 days?

I’m looking for opinions - is it possible for my friend and I to backpack from Rockfish Gap to Front Royal in 6 days in October? The Thru-Hikers’ Companion says it is 107 miles; that’s 18 miles a day.

Sure you can do it! Get in good walking shape first and lighten your load as much as possible. But if you pay diligent attention to both, 18/day is very realistic. Go for it! SNP in the fall will be beautiful.

I did that section a few years ago with my wife and her sister. 48, 49, 56 y/0. We took 9 days and it was hard. Although thru hikers say that part is easy, there is still alot of ups and downs. I suggest that you take your time and enjoy. why hurry it will still be there another time.

With 10-12 kilo packs & conditioning it should be no problem. PATC has the trail looking very nice, very well-graded.

OTOH, there are some fine blue blazes like Old Rag, the White & Black canyons, Limberlost, Jones River, etc that you shouldn’t miss.

I’d add a couple days for those unless you are a local who can come back for 'em.
