While training for my thru hike I slipped on a wet rock (it wasn’t raining at the time) and sprained my ankle. What kind of shoes\soles that grip wet rocks should I use on the AT?

I like Vibram soles on my boots. Nothing is going to stick to a wet rock if it has algae on it. Usually, the smaller the tread the more traction you will have vs. larger, wider spaced ones. I sprained my ankle also, but it was because of the leaves hiding the rocks and I stepped down on the corner of one while wearing shoes.

Use trekking poles, they have prevented or lessened the severity of many a slip or fall.
Also was out around streams with moss and algae on the rocks or wet leaves on top of rocks (use hiking poles to cross streams bor balance)----watch where you step.
No shoe or boot regardless of the type sole it has will absolutely prevent a slip. Reason, a slip occurs when two objects on a surface move in relation to each other. Suppose you have leaves on a rock and they are a little wet or damp. You step on the rock, you boot soles grab a hold of the leaves and hold them tight, but alas the leaves do not hold tight to the rock, so a slip occurs.
Most sprains can be walked off, it’s best to do this otherwise they swell up----the walking keep the circulation going to the slightly injured part and keeps those muscles, etc moving, hence no swelling. If bad enough, they will swell up anyway and you might not be able to walk without severe pain or not walk at all on it.
See you out there.:cheers

Montrail Java GTX’s were super grippy. I loved them, and my pole of course. Between the two I rarely fell, and when I did it was more cause I lots my balance than cause I slipped.

I have a pair of timberlands boots (womens) can’t remember the name but they are black with a black rubber sole and they are great anti -slip, I work on floors at work that are greasy and wet and they arethe best.
