Short CDT section in northern Colorado?

My hubby and I are planning to do a 4 day hike on the CDT in northern Colorado this summer. We anticipate covering 75-80 miles in that time, and I’d love to hear some suggestions for a good section to check out. We’ll be staying in Boulder before and after our hike, so the closer to Boulder, the better. Thanks in advance!

“CDT in northern Colorado” and “the closer to Boulder, the better” are not really synonymous with one another.

i don’t know a whole lot about the CDT in northern Colorado, but i do know that the section from rabbit ears pass outside of Steamboat Springs to the wyoming border is supposed to be really nice…

How far do you want to drive?

RMNP/Indians Peaks area can provide a nice hike (45 minutes to 1.5 hrs away depending). A little further south, the James Peak area with the wonderful divide traverse is awesome (1-2 hrs away depending where you start) You can continue to follow the “official” CDT as well to Grays and Torries (two 14ers) for a nice scenic traverse.

Off of I70, you can start at Copper Mtn (About 1.5 hrs away) quite easily and follow the CDT/CT for a bit. Kokomo and Searles Pass are rather scenic.

Many options depending on how far you want to drive, what you need in terms of shuttling, etc.

We did Steamboat Springs north maybe 12 yrs ago. Its a super hike. Good trail head parking; this was just south of Rabbit Ears and Mt. Zirkle (Ethel?) The only problem was the head is at 10,200ft. Your lungs will expload the instant you put your pack on. I’ve got some maps somewhere.
