Does anyone have suggestions on getting a shuttle from Fontana Dam to the Knoxville airport? Looking for help in planning a section. Thanks, SY

if you’re heading north, i’d say your best (and easiest) bet would be to walk 40 more miles to newfound gap-if time permits-and then hitch down to gatlinburg. i’d guess options would be a little easier from there than fontana dam…
just a thought.

Thanks all, Time won’t allow us to get to Newfound or that would have been a great option.
Cheers, thanks for the link this looks like exactly what we need and given they will bring us back south if needed gives us more options…
Stay well, SY

that cheers is a smart one. so much smarter than i ever was…
too bad you won’t have time to make it to newfound. i guess that’s for the next section, huh? the smokies can be a beautiful and quiet place.

Just not in April and early May during the migration.
But yes, Jeff and Nancy are GREAT!!
Tabasco
definitely not during the migration. but, here’s a true story for you-
me and the iceman started a section of the mountains to sea trail from clingmans dome on memorial day weekend of 2003. (the MST and the AT share the same footpath for 3 miles north from clingmans).
the person that dropped us off had to park about a half mile down clingmans dome road because of all the cars. we passed no less than a thousand people from the parking lot to the summit tower.
after walking literally 30 yards down the MST/AT, we so nobody else on the trail for the next 3 days through the smokies…

Grizzly, you are right smokies is the next section I was thinking about late May or June - is this a good time through there?
I have an email into Jeff and Nancy to arrange our shuttle and o/nite.

Swamp Yankee, If you could hike to Russell Shelter in the Smokies you could then side trail it to Cades Cove which is 5.1 miles off the AT. Hitch a ride to Townsend that would be approx. 8 miles. Then hitch a ride to the Airport and that is approx. 15 miles… If your schedule permits…This would be a couple of days quickier than going to Newfound Gap…
